  • Just One Tree Day

    Published 18/10/24

On Friday 18th of October we had a fantastic JUST ONE Tree Day! The children wore green and learnt lots about protecting our planet. It was a fun and educational day for all.

What’s even better is that we raised £660 meaning our school’s forest now stands at a whopping 660 trees and absorbing 203.28 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. Our forest will be creating homes for wildlife, raising rural employment, protecting coastlines, capturing water, cleaning the air we breathe and most importantly, tackling climate change.

We’re so pleased that our school community is having such a positive impact.

  • Wondermaths Challenge 2024

    Published 26/06/24

On Wednesday 26th June, we took part in the Wondermaths challenge 2024. Me and a group of 4 other pupils took part. We trained hard everyday at home and attended 2 sessions after school with our talented teacher. I prepared for this competition by practicing everyday after school for 1 hour, learning all the maths games that were included in the maths competition. The games were: T-shapes, pentominoes, dominoes, dice game, code breaking, surprise problems and the 24 game. This was all achieved with the help of my hard working teacher, Mr Gorsia. Before the competition we had to go through something called the Heats Round to qualify to the final which we won. In the finals, the top 12 schools competed across London. All were eager to win the competition. I felt nervous and excited both at the same time. As it came to an end, they announced the winners...

We were shocked to hear our school name, winning the competition for the 3rd year in a row! I thought it was an amazing experience and was happy to be there. I learnt new games in maths and how it feels to be in a maths competition for the first time. In conclusion, it was a really fun day and this wouldn't have happened without Mr Gorsia.

  • Year 5 Visit to Kew Gardens

    Published 18/06/24

Y5 visited to Kew Gardens this week. We had a pollination workshop to support our work on life cycles and learnt how bees pollinate plants. We then had a go at transferring some pollen from one flower to the stigma of another flower to show how pollination worked. We also visited the famous greenhouses and were lucky enough to see the corpse plant , which is the world’s smelliest plant in bloom , as it only blooms for a very short time every few years. I have attached a picture!

5G were also daring enough to go up the tree top walk and experience what it was like to be above the top of the trees. It was a great trip and the children had a memorable experience.

This morning we had some very special assembly guest speakers they were:

    Deputy Mayor Councillor Anjana Patel

    Councillor David Ashton

    Councillor Hitesh Karia

British Olympians: Louise Evans and Victoria Ohuruogu

The deputy mayor of Harrow spoke to the children about the importance of walking to school and the campaign that is currently happening right now across all Harrow schools. Children also met 'Hoppy' the hare who is the mascot for the walking to school campaign.

Maria in Year 6, who won the 'Design the Banner' competition, was congratulated for her creative thoughts behind her design. You can see this banner displayed outside the school. The Deputy Major also opened the school climbing frame officially.

Both the olympians talked to the children about the importance of being both resilient and persistant and believing in their dreams and working hard to achieve them. Everything and anything is possible with dedication!

For the rest of the day classes in all the different year groups enjoyed PE with the olympic athletes.

  • Wondermaths Challenge Heats Round

    Published 24/05/24

On Friday May 24th, Elmgrove Primary School competed in a huge maths challenge with 65 other schools. This is not the kind of maths you or your child do in school. We play games like T-shapes, Pentominoes, Dominoes, Dice, Surprise Problems, Code Breaking, and the classic 24 game. This is advanced maths. The children who took part in the competition were Abdul (5ST), Tajae (5G), Mustafa (5G), Antonia M (4W), and Sofia (4W). Daily practice is the key to our success. Mr Gorsia gave us tools to use at home, and he taught us all the tricks and tips, which helped us to practice for the competition. Before the game, I was nervous but determined to do my best. I had worked really hard for the past weeks to get ready for the challenge! When they were about to announce the winners, I knew we would win! They then revealed the winners of the competition, which was us, Elmgrove Primary School! Cheers and happiness erupted from everyone! I was so proud of our team's achievement. We won first place! We'll be in the finals in June! Hip hip hooray! We're putting in a lot of work right now to win the finals!
